Grocery Haul: Healthy Food & Snacks

Friday, September 25, 2015

A new school year has started for me (probably for a lot of you girls as well). With that new year, I want to make some changes in my way of working for school (more planning ahead, organising,...). But also, I want to make some changes in my way of eating. More vegetables, fruit and healthy snacks. I went to Albert Hein, which is a very nice supermarket with a wide variety of food. I found some lovely things, especially for breakfast. So, as a different type of blog post today, I'm going to do a grocery haul!

Hummus is one of my favourite things lately. I like the taste and the consistency. This one from Albert Hein is slightly spicy but oh so delicous. I also got the tomato salsa, but I tried this one already and I don't think I will repurchase it. To go with these dips, I got some whole-weath crackers called Vitalu. I had never seen them before and they are so good! Great for lunch or as an after-school snack.

Haaaaa, breakfast. The most important meals of the day. I almost never skip breakfast, I always try to have something in the morning. I think it's an important step, to function well throughout the morning. They had lots of Muesli mixes at AH, but this one (left on the photo) with oats, dates, coconut, banana and apricot looked very nice. There are very little raisins in this mix, which is great because I don't like raisins. Raisins are a waste of grapes, that could have been turned into wine. Just my opinion.
The other pack are just plain oats. I found a recipe online for overnight oats and really wanted to try it out. I think it can save a lot of time in the morning, which is great for when you have an early class or an internship to go to.

Next up: greek yoghurt and blueberries. I can't say much about the yoghurt, it's just plain Greek yoghurt to eat with the muesli. In my opinion, Albert Hein has te best blueberries out there. They are delicious, crispy and sweet and very low in sugar and calories. Delicious with oatmeal and banana, with yogurt or just on their own! ;)

I went on a hunt for this product. I've heard so much about it lately and wanted to try it out. It's agave syrup. I know there is a bit of a debate going on about it, it's appearantly not as healthy as a lot of people think. It's a nectar made from the agave plant. I got it to sweeten my tea and maybe pour it on my oatmeal or yoghurt in the morning. I'm not a huge fan of honey, so this seems like a good alternative. Also, it tastes delicious.

Looking around for a snack that did not have too much sugar of calories in it, I found these banana chocolate muesli minis from Made Good. These are (ready for it?): vegan, kosher, peanut-free, gluten-free, contain vegetables and are made with whole grains.
These are so delicious, I can't even describe it. And the best part: they are only 90calories per pack!
Lastly, some little marzipan pigs because after so much healthy stuff, I deserved a treat! And these were just too cute to leave.

What are some of your good resolutions to start the new school year with?
xx,
Astrid

  1. The questions is, why do I like grocery hauls so much? You know you're getting old when grocery shopping excites you, haha :D
Also, look up Lily Pebbles breakfast oats recipe, it's super delicious but still healthy. She uses maple syrup that I switched with agave syrup and only almonds, but I like to use a variety of nuts.

  2. Haha, I love what you said about grapes. I'm gonna quote you the next time someone tells, they don't like raisins :D. I think you got some great stuff here. I haven't tried the humus, because I'm not even sure if I can get it here. I love greek yoghurt for pancakes. It's so creamy and thick that it makes me think like I have a whipped cream or some unhealthy creme over it :). My resolution is to finally start working out more. I used to be more active. :)
