Too Faced Chocolate Bar Review and Swatches

Saturday, March 7, 2015

Hey beauties, let's do a review on an amazing eyeshadow palette today. As a big chocolate lover, I knew I had to have this palette. It was sold out in Paris last summer at all the Sephora stores, but I found it in Lille in the beginning of February. I'm talking about the Too Faced Chocolate Bar. There has been so much buzz about this beauty and I'm a sucker for nude palettes, so it had to be welcomed into my collection.

Let's talk about the packaging first. How cute does this look? Like the Naked 2 and Naked 3 palette from Urban Decay, this has a tin packaging, but with a magnetic close. It's shaped like a chocalate bar and looks delicious! But it does not only look delicious, the 16 eyeshadows included in this palette also smell delicious... as they are enriched with pure cocoa powder. And YES, that smells as good as it sounds. I sometimes just open this palette to smell the heavenly chocolate scent.

This palette includes a mix of 16 matte and shimmery shades, a variety of natural browns, delicate pinks and berry plums. The shades were all new and I think they are exclusively available in this palette. And the names.... I get hungry when reading these!
  • Gilded Ganache
  • White Chocolate
  • Milk Chocolate
  • Black Forest Truffle
  • Triple Fudge
  • Salted Caramel
  • Marzipan
  • Semi-Sweet
  • Strawberry Bon Bon
  • Candied Violet
  • Amaretto
  • Hazelnut
  • Crème Brulee
  • Haute Chocolate
  • Cherry Cordial
  • Champagne Truffle

Swatches left to right: Gilded Ganache, Salted Caramel, Hazelnut, White Chocolate, Marzipan, Crème Brulee, Semi-sweet, Haute Chocolate

This is the first half of the palette. If you would divide it two this would be the left part. These almost all swatched so easy and beautiful. Gilded Ganache and Semi-sweet were the hardest to swatch and need a bit more work. But I'm so impressed with the other ones. They feel so soft and buttery. The matte shades are slightly less pigmented, but they are more than okay.
My Favorites? Salted Caramel, White Chocolate, Marzipan and Hazelnut.

Swatches from left to right: Milk Chocolate, Strawberry Bon Bon, Cherry Cordial, Black Forest Truffle, Candied Violet, Champagne Truffle, Tripple Fudge, Amaretto

This batch of swatches, the right side of the palette, are overall more pink and plum toned than the colors on the left side. With some shades, I had to work a bit harder to swatch them. They were a bit more dry than other color in the palette. Strawberry Bon Bon is more muted on the skin than you'd think when you see it in the pan. Also Candied Violet was much more sheer than I expected. BUT they are very pretty colors. Candied Violet is quite a unique shade.
My favorites? Milk Chocolate, Champagne Truffle, Amaretto

All the swatches were applied on my arm without a primer.

My sweet readers, please don't forget:

  2. The colour selection is stunning and the fact that it smells like chocolate it makes it 10 times better... But for some reason, the fact that those two shades are larger than the rest really bothers me :D I'm weird... :D

    1. Yeah, I also don't really understand why they did that. Maybe they thought it were two colors that would get a lot of use? The color selection is indeed amazing :)
