My name is Astrid and I'm a nail polish addict. *Hello Astrid*
But seriously, things got out of hand. I have four boxes of nail polish at home and one small box in Ghent. Ofcourse, I can't clean up the box in Ghent now but I decided to declutter the ones at home. I had lots of fun doing this. I started with a goal: downsizing to three boxes in stead of four.
I have lots of different brands of nail polish. I love trying out new brand, new trends, new effects. Essie and OPI are my favorite so they are the most present in my collection. I also like Rimmel, Kiko, Catrice, Revlon, Ciaté,... I have a few high-end brands like Chanel, Lancôme, By Terry, Marc Jacobs and Dior. These last few polishes were the first ones to stay.
So how did I get started? I just dumped it all out on my bed.
After that, I started organizing them by color. I actually enjoyed doing this! I found out I had too much red, blue and mint green polishes. I normally organize my collection by brand so it was quite interesting to see how much bottles I had per color. Weirdly enough: only 1 yellow bottle. I thought I had more! I also had a category glitters, nail care and special effects (special top coats, sand effects, shatter polishes,...)
Than it was time to take the little groups of color and compare them with each other. I often choose OPI and Essie over other brand, because those are the brands I use and love the most. I did however got rid of the mini-OPI bottles. I don't like the brushes as much as the normal sized ones so they don't get used a lot. I also thought to myself: how much do I use this color? Is it a still a color that I like? Do I wear it enough?
These are the ones that are going! I got rid of 55 nail polishes! I feel better. My collection is more clean now. I reached my goal: Three boxes!
What am I going to do with these? I'm giving one to my mom, a color she likes a lot. I'm also going to try and sell a few ones to my friends. All the ones that are left after that, I'm giving away to the facility where I do my internship. Each week, the residents can come to the salon (an activity we organize every friday) and can get facials, manicures,... Last friday, I painted a girl's nails in a cute pink color and the smile she gave me when she saw her nails truly was the highlight of my week. They like bright nail colors so I'm going to 'donate' them. I think they will get used more often there.
Have a great weekend, ladies <3
xx,
Astrid
Hi Astrid! Hello, my name is Petra and I'm also nail polish addict. I have about the same if not more polishes than you. I really should do something about it. You may have just inspired me :)
ReplyDeleteYour internship sounds like so much fun :).
xx
I had so many colors that were too similar to each other, so I needed to clean it out. Some were also too old too use or the color/effect wasn't my thing anymore. It's really fun do to this and you feel less like an addict haha :D
DeleteMy internship is fun indeed, but sometimes a bit hard and very exhausting ^^ I do my internship in a facility for people with a mental disability, which is not as easy group to work with...
Thanks for your comment, sweety! xx
