Sleek 'A New Day' I-Divine Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches

Saturday, April 23, 2016

A few readers of my drugstore haul showed interest in the Sleek palette I purchased so I decided to do a review on it. This palette is called 'A New Day' and I think it's quite new to the Sleek collection. It reminds me a bit of the 'Oh so special' palette, but not as pink. There is also an 'All Night Long' palette, which is overal slightly darker toned and has more shades with a metallic finish. Sleek is known for their eyeshadow palettes, I did a review on 'Au Natural' and 'Storm'. But is this one as good as the other ones?

As always, this palette is packaged as a simple, matte, black palette. It has the brand logo written on it in a shiny finish. You can say it's very 'sleek'. It's light weight and won't take up much space in your toilet bag.

There are 12 colors included in this palette, divided in two rows.
Row 1: Sun Is Shining, Brightside, Daydreamer, Let It Go, Don't Worry, Be Happy
Row 2: Feeling Good, Silver Lining, Shine On, Carpe Diem, Believer, H-A-P-P-Y

I really like how all these names have positive vibes to them! The row above has quite warm colors and the row below has more cool-toned colors.

The colors are a mix of matte, satin and shimmery colors. At the photos below, you can see the swatches of the colors. Some of them, I really like. Other were a bit disappointing...
All of the colors are swatched without a primer. Keep in mind that they will probably perform better with a primer underneath!

Row 1 (from left to right)
Sun Is Shining: A shimmery pale yellow. It's a bit of a buttery color, with shimmer in it. Very beautiful. This has a very soft consistency and is quite pigmented.
Brightside: A copper color with shimmer. Very beautiful color, but I missed that bit more *oomph*! It was a bit powdery.
Daydreamer: A cool-toned matte brown. I'm not a fan of this one at all. There's not a lot of pigment and it applied very chalky. I built up the color a bit and the swatch on the photo is a result...
Let It Go: A cool-toned matte brown, close to a terracotta color. This one applied better than Daydreamer, but it's still poorly pigmented in my opinion. I'm confused about the pigmentation of the matte colors, normally Sleek does a great job at them!
Don't Worry: A warm brown with gold and copper shimmer. This is one of the most pigmented and one of my favorite colors in the first row. I like this one very much.
Be Happy: Yes, there actually is a color on my arm there! It's a very light, almost flesh colored matte color. Very nice as a transitioning color in the crease. Even though it's hardly visible on my skin, it has a nice consistency and swatched fairly good.

Row 2: (from left to right)
Feeling Good: An off-white color with a satin pink finish. Very interesting color, but less pigmented than I would have wanted, but you can built up the color to get more pigmentation.
Silver Lining: Love this color! It's a light taupe color with silver shimmer and glitter. I don't think I have anything like this. The pigmentation is okay. Not insanely good, but also one of these colors you can built up.
Shine On: This color looks like sunshine! Very creamy formula and lots of gold shimmer that catch the light. Again, this needs a few more layers to really pop. It's seems to be a theme with lots of the colors here...
Carpe Diem: A matte taupe/mauve color. This is the most pigmented matte color in this palette and also the prettiest one. Very nice, I like this!
Believer: Finally, a color that performs amazingly! This pale champagne color has a tiny hint of pink of purple in it and matched very well with Carpe Diem, in my opinion. Probably the nicest pigmentation in this palette. Love love love this color!
H-A-P-P-Y: Matte dark brown. Quite powdery but the pigmentation is more than okay.

Overall, this palette has ups and downs. There are a few very beautiful colors in here but also some colors that let me down. It doesn't seem to perform as well as other I-Divine palettes I own. I'm not saying it's a terrible palette because I will use this one. But I just don't think it's their best one yet.

**update**: I tried the eyeshadows yesterday on my eyes and to be honest: I took it right off. I used Believer on my eyelids and Carpe diem in the crease.
Believer looked very patchy and uneven and Carpe Diem hardly showed up. I was quite disappointed...

What's your favorite Sleek I-Divine palette?

Astrid

  1. The shades are pretty. :) I especially like the upper row. Too bad they don't all perform as well. I've heard only good things about Sleek in general. I have both matte palettes, the one with bright colors and the one with darker colors. But I would love to try some other, I just have to find the perfect color combination :D.

Sleek does have wonderful palettes, like 'Storm' and 'Au Naturel'. I'd recommend those two. But tis one, not so much :)

  2. I really like the look of the shades, but it's such a shame to read they don't perform well, especially since Sleek is usually off the charts with their pigmentation :/
